Less shaving. Smoother skin. Long-lasting hair reduction.
Using the Cynosure Icon system with advanced MaxR technology, laser hair removal treatments target unwanted hair at the follicle to gradually reduce future growth. Treatments are fast, non-invasive and customized according to your skin tone, hair color and treatment area.
What it is
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment designed to achieve long-lasting reduction of unwanted facial and body hair. It can be used on areas including the upper lip, chin, underarms, bikini area, legs, arms, chest and back.
Unlike shaving or waxing, which only remove visible hair temporarily, light-based hair reduction targets the follicle beneath the skin. Over a series of treatments, hair typically grows back finer, lighter and less frequently.
How It Works
The Cynosure Icon MaxR handpiece delivers controlled pulses of light that are absorbed by the pigment within the hair. This energy converts to heat and damages the targeted follicle, reducing its ability to produce new hair.
Because hair grows in different cycles, only follicles in the active growth stage respond during each appointment. Multiple sessions are needed to treat additional follicles as they enter this stage.
Laser hair removal is generally most effective on dark, coarse hair. Blonde, red, gray and white hair contain less pigment and may not respond as effectively.
What to Expect
Treatment time depends on the area, with smaller areas taking only a few minutes and larger areas requiring more time. During treatment, you may feel warmth or a quick snapping sensation. Mild redness or follicular swelling can occur afterward and usually resolves quickly.
Most patients need a series of approximately 6–8 treatments for optimal reduction. Hormones, hair color, skin tone and the treatment area can affect the number of sessions needed. Occasional maintenance treatments may also be recommended.
The area should be shaved before treatment. Waxing, tweezing and other methods that remove the hair from the follicle should be avoided between sessions. Laser hair removal cannot be performed on recently tanned skin.
